Burnout. Loneliness. Depression and Anxiety. The pandemic has affected everyone.

Women, in particular, have borne the brunt. In Singapore, rising domestic violence cases and unequal caregiving responsibilities are just a few examples.

After a challenging year, we have seen first-hand the toll of the pandemic on women we work with. We are also constantly inspired by how women cope with these challenges and show us the heights of their bravery and resilience.

What have we learned from them? And what keeps us going?

It’s simple — SELF CARE.

In this blog, we look at how important self-care is and share…

“Equality means more than passing laws. The struggle is really won in the hearts and minds of the community, where it really counts.” — Barbara Gittings

Prominent activist Barbara Gittings fought to stop companies from barring LGBTQIA+ applicants from employment, but she recognized the need for acceptance and inclusivity in every community. Since then, recognizing the LGBTQIA+ community has come a long way — including Pride Month.

There has been similar progress in other parts of the world. In 2018, consensual gay sex was legalized by India’s Supreme Court. …

Steve, a forty-something dad of two young kids, received a peculiar gift for Father’s day: socks.

He unwrapped his gift expecting a pair of white socks with a black border, like all his other socks. What he found was a pair of colorful socks with scarlet macaws printed all over them. Clearly a hint from his kids to add a dose of color (and cheer) to his wardrobe!

A clothing item that has historically been more functional than fashionable, socks for adults have been reimagined over the last decade. Today, there are hundreds of socks brands selling colorful, patterned socks…

When people who love the ocean come together, they can achieve extraordinary things.
- Frances Beinecke

For many people across the globe, the underwater world holds mystery, wonder, and adventure. If given a chance to go on a getaway, they will instantly pick a place by the sea or the ocean. These are the same people who love to partake in the two most popular water-related sports in the world: Surfing and Scuba Diving.

From Naomi Osaka to Mary Kom, women are carving out a place for themselves in the male-dominated world of sports. They are trailblazing the way for a generation of girls, setting world records, fighting for equal pay, and fielding trollers on social media.

Representation matters and social media is a powerful tool, providing voice and visibility for female athletes. Social media platforms raise the profile of many women athletes and teams.

For example, Twitter provides an opportunity for the U.S. women’s team to broaden its fan base. Simply re-tweeting has a huge impact on the club, players, and game visibility…

Imagine an entire tennis stadium converting into a bustling, themed gaming ground. At the renowned Fortnite World Cup Finals of 2019, several attractions were replicated from the actual game to create a digital theme park that rewarded winners with an enormous $30 million prize pool.

The rising popularity of digital gaming, more commonly referred to as esports, has taken the world by storm in recent years. We see an increase in the number of participants and the number of spectators tuning in to watch esports tournaments such as the League of Legends world championship (viewership for this spectacle surpassed even…

Have you eaten a bag of chips today? Ordered takeaway? Bought your favorite shampoo?

All of these tasks have one thing in common — plastic.

Plastic is embedded in our everyday life from cleaning the house to the food we eat. We produce 368 million tonnes of plastic waste every year. That’s more than the weight of the entire human population. If current trends continue, by 2050, our oceans could contain more plastic than fish. Plastics is the human health crisis no one is talking about. It causes long-lasting and irreversible harm at every step of its production.

Chemicals used…

How Big Data Can Help Break the Mental health Stigma

From the U.S. to Singapore, the pandemic has taken a toll on people’s mental health. In 2020, about 4 in 10 adults in the U.S. reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder, up from one in ten adults in 2019. In Singapore, a suicide prevention organization received over 39,000 calls for help in 2020 — an 18% increase from the year before.

However, mental health services are overwhelmed and lacking in many countries. In 130 countries, about 60% of service providers reported disruptions to mental health services for vulnerable people…

Any talk about menstruation in India is often met with hesitation at best anger at worst. It is considered to be a taboo subject and certainly not something that concerns men. Consequently, young girls are unaware of what to expect and how to deal with it. In fact, over 70% of girls in India had no clue about menstruation until they experienced it for the first time.

This has far-reaching consequences — both for women and society. In 2012, 60% of women suffering from reproductive tract infections had poor menstrual hygiene. When it comes to the use of sanitary products…
